Social Media Freemiums

Once Upon a Time…

We’ve all seen the new addition to our social media feeds. They’re there after every few posts or at the beginning, middle or end of a video. Advertisements/commercials have infiltrated our place of peace and sanctity. The one place where we thought we could go straight into a video without being interrupted for a few seconds is now overridden with them.

But what happened? How did we let it come to this? Well, we’ve got Facebook, Google, and the other tech giants to thank for this.

In all honesty, I hate ads…with a passion. They get in the way of my relaxation and disconnect me from my current experience. The only good that comes from ads is for the social media companies, since they get paid to show them off on their platforms. But is it really necessary to pay for these services to get your ads shown?

Facebook has a concept of Ad Auctioning which means that however much you put in to your budget on Facebook’s advertising they’ll distribute that amount towards various methods to show off your ad. The more you put in, the better the results you’ll get.

It kinda sucks, if you think about it because bigger companies that are established and spend millions towards marketing will be at an advantage since they can afford to spend more towards Facebook’s Advertising budget. Whereas a small company, like a start-up, has to be very strict on the amount they spend towards marketing. So basically, if you wanna play in the game you’ve gotta pay.

Well, till next time. This is Amir, signing off
